Top seed Andrey Rublev and the wildcard Shang Juncheng will battle each other in the semifinals at the Hong Kong Tennis Open. The winner will then play either Sebastian Ofner or Emil Ruusuvuori in the final. Andrey Rublev dropped his first set in Hong Kong in his last match which was against eighth seed Arthur Fils. The win allowed him to advance to his ninth tour semifinal in the last year. Rublev, who won two titles last season, is highly favoured to emerge victorious in Hong Kong. The world number five is an exceptional player on hard courts. So far in his career, he has compiled a 167-86 record on the surface.
Shang Juncheng got the better of one of the favourites to win it all in Hong Kong in the last round. He therefore should be brimming with confidence coming into this match. The Chinese number three overpowered third seed Frances Tiafoe in straight sets. He lost eight games in the contest and is now through to his maiden tour semifinal. With the crowd expected to again be fully behind Juncheng, Rublev could be in for a rough ride. Advancing to this round has catapulted the 18-year-old old a massive 41 places in the ATP world rankings. He is now ranked 142nd which is a new career high. Juncheng has compiled a 47-25 record on hard courts in his career.
