Qualifier Ana Bogdan will take on unseeded Veronika Kudermetova in the opening round of the WTA Osaka Open. The two are scheduled to meet on Tuesday and here we have stats for the match as well as a prediction.

Ana Bogdan had a strong showing in the qualifiers and will hope to carry the momentum for a deep main draw run. The Romanian won both her qualifying matches in straight sets, only losing a combined nine games.

To progress to the main draw, she defeated home favourite Naho Sato. Bogdan, who is having a rocky year, has now improved her record to 18-22 with nine of her wins coming on hard courts.

The 31-year-old has the upper hand in this fixture. She has won three of their four matchups though they haven’t met since 2021. Making it to the main draw has catapulted the former world number 39, nine places up in the live ranking to 111th.

Veronika Kudermetova defeated Bogdan on a clay surface in Istanbul the last time they squared off. This ended a three-match losing run in this fixture and she will be eager to start her own winning run.

The Russian is also having an inconsistent year, having compiled an 18-23 record which has greatly impacted her world ranking. Starting the year as the world number 16, the two-time tour champion has plummeted in the WTA rankings.

She is currently placed 63rd in the world which is the lowest she has been ranked since 2019. The 27-year-old is coming off a second-round exit in Wuhan.
