The Australian Open quarter finals see second seeded Carlos Alcaraz take on sixth seed Alexander Zverev. For the winners there's a semi-final against either third seed Daniil Medvedev or ninth seeded Hubert Hurkacz. For Alcaraz, this is his first time in the last eight of this hard court Grand Slam. It is only his third time in the tournament but he's never previously made it past round three in Melbourne. The Spaniard is in with a chance of regaining his world number one ranking if winning this title. He didn't play a warm-up event but has been improving as this Grand Slam has progressed.and he's only lost ten games in his last two matches against Shang Juncheng (who retired in the third set) and Miomir Kecmanovic.

Alexander Zverev is top of the ATP Live Race after winning eight out of nine matches this year. He began the year being part of the Germany side that won the United Cup with him having a great run in both singles and mixed doubles matches. His good form has continued in this Grand Slam and he's through to the last eight here for third time. Only once has he reached the semi-finals and that was four years ago. So far in Melbourne, Zverev has won four matches but two have gone to a final set. That was the case in the last 16 as he beat Cameron Norrie via a final set tie-break. Zverev leads Alcaraz 4-3 in previous meetings, the most recent being a win in the ATP Tour Finals last November. We go for over 3.5 sets to be played in this match.
