Unseeded Alexander Shevchenko will seek to make more personal history when he plays wildcard Pierre Hugues Herbert at the Moselle Open on Friday. The two will meet in the semifinals with the winner going on to battle either Fabio Fognini or Ugo Humbert for the title. Alexander Shevchenko is gearing up to play in the first tour semifinal of his career. The 22-year-old Russian defeated compatriot and third seed Karen Khachanov to earn this feat. He impressively won their quarterfinal in straight sets and lost nine games in the process. Shevchenko has been in good form in recent weeks and currently has won seven of his last eight matches. His recent success has propelled him up to 58th in the live ranking which is a career-high.
Pierre Hugues Herbert is also in fine form at the moment. He has also recorded seven wins in his last eight fixtures. The Frenchman defeated compatriot Luca Van Assche in three sets in the semifinals. Metz is his first Singles tour event of the season and things are going smoothly for the four-time challenger champion. His quarterfinal victory has catapulted him up a massive 94 places to number 250 in the live ranking. Herbert has recorded 15 of his 21 victories this year on indoor hard courts. Another win on the surface will see him advance to his first tour final in two years.
