Not since 1932 has a Frenchman won this outdoor clay court tournament held in Kitzbuhel. Unseeded Arthur Cazaux will hope to end that barren run when taking on top seed Alexander Bublik in Saturday’s final. Can he cause an upset? Here’s our match prediction.
Last week saw these two players face each other in the last four in Gstaad. Bublik won that match (also played on clay) 6-1 7-5 and will hope for a repeat performance in this Generali Open final.
Bublik went on to win the Gstaad title and is in awesome form at present. The Roland Garros quarter-finalist has also recently won a clay court Challenger title and the Halle Open on grass. This week has seen hiim win three matches, all in straight sets and he's now 27th in the live rankings.
Cazaux is the first French player in 16 years to reach this final and he will be seeking revenge for last week's semi-final loss. The only other previous meeting between these two players was on grass at Wimbledon last year with Bublik again winning in straight sets.
The Frenchman has only dropped one set this week and on Friday, he beat Arthur Rinderknech 7-5 6-3. His run to his first ATP Tour final has taken him to 75th in the live rankings. We tip Bublik to win in straight sets.
