Round one of the indoor hard court Paris Masters sees 12th seed Hubert Hurkacz facing unseeded Alex Michelsen. Read our match prediction below.
Hurkacz is the world number 14 and a place higher in the ATP Race. He’s been struggling for consistency of late with two of his last three matches ending in defeat. Most recently, he lost to Jack Draper in the last 16 of the Japan Open.
This is only the second tournament he’s played since being beaten in round two of the US Open in August. Before that, he reached two hard court quarter-finals but had to retire injured in Cincinnati.
Alex Michelsen is 44th in the rankings and that’s just one place below his career-high. The American has lost his last two matches, most recently being beaten by Marcos Giron in Vienna. His other recent loss was to Novak Djokovic with both sets going to a tie-break. Three of his last four matches have seen a tie-break played.
His best recent performance came in Tokyo. The 20-year-old made it to the last eight and had a win over Stefanos Tsitsipas that week. This could be a close match with Hurkacz not quite firing on all cylinders at present. We go for over 0.5 tie-breaks to be played.
