Second seed Sebastian Ofner begins his campaign in the Grand Prix Hassan II tournament. He received a bye into round two and faces unseeded Aleksandar Vukic in this outdoor clay court tournament. Up next for the winner is a match against either seventh seed Mariano Navone or unseeded Stan Wawrinka. Ofner is at 47th in the rankings but was as high as 37th in January. The Austrian made a promising start to 2024 when reaching the last four of the outdoor hard court event held in Hong Kong. It's not gone well since then both on hard and clay courts. Ofner played three matches on the South American clay court tour and lost them all. He begins this match having lost seven of his last nine matches. On clay, Ofner has shown good form in the past and got to the last 16 at Roland Garros in 2023. He also reached four Challenger Tour clay court finals last year, winning one of them.

Aleksandar Vukic rose to 66th in the live rankings after his first round win in Marrakech. The Australian beat Alexandre Muller in straight sets and that was a welcome win. Before that victory he had only won two of his nine matches on the ATP Tour this year. While Ofner made a good start to the new year, Vukic lost each of his first four matches. There have been signs of improvement with a recent run to the semi-finals of a hard court Challenger Tour tournament in Phoenix. 2023 saw him win a Challenger Tour clay court event and get to another final.
