Second seed Alexander Bublik begins his Lyon Open campaign with a second-round showdown against unseeded Aleksandar Vukic. The winner here will then play either Pavel Kotov or Alexandre Muller next. Aleksandar Bublic is making his debut in this ATP 250 event. He defeated American Mackenzie McDonald by the loss of four games in the first round. This was the 10th win of a disappointing season thus far that has seen the Australian lose 16 times. Vukic has only once advanced past the second round at a tour event this year. This was in Marrakech where he made the quarter-finals. But as he has the head-to-head advantage in this fixture with Bublik, he will be confident of breaking this second-round jinx. Vukic, who is now up to 87th in the live ranking, defeated Bublik two seasons ago in Adelaide in their only encounter.

Alexander Bublik isn’t a strong performer on clay and for the last six seasons hasn’t finished with a winning record on the surface. He is struggling once again on clay and has lost three of five matches this season. Currently, on a two-match skid, Bublik has lost six of his last nine fixtures. Each of these losses was by straight sets with the most recent coming in Rome slightly over a week ago. The current world number 19 is back in Lyon after a five-year hiatus. The last time he participated in this event, he was unable to advance from the qualifiers. Bublik has compiled a 16-10 record and despite his recent struggles has recorded two final appearances, winning one. He triumphed in Montpellier and was runner-up in Dubai. The Kazakh was also a semi-finalist in Adelaide.
