17th seeded Hubert Hurkacz faces unseeded Albert Ramos-Vimolas in the Wimbledon first round. The winner of this match takes on either Dusan Lajovic or Jan Choinski in the secomd round. Hurkacz reached the semi-finals of this grass court Grand Slam two years ago. It didn't go so well in 2022 when he lost in the first round to Alejandro Davidovich-Fokina in a five-set thriller. The Pole has reached the fourth round of the Australian Open this year and lost in round three at Roland Garros. He's played two warm-up events on grass and got to the last four in Stuttgart. That was followed by a last 16 exit in Halle. The 26-year-old has won one ATP tournament this year being victorious in Marseille. He begins this tournament ranked 18th in the world and one place lower in the Live ATP Race.
Albert Ramos-Vinolas is down at 72 in the world rankings. The Spaniard has never made it past the third round at Wimbledon. He achieved that in both 2016 and 2017 but hasn't won a match at Wimbledon since then. He's played four tournaments and lost each of his matches. Last year saw Vinolas lose to third seeded Casper Ruud in straight sets. All of his four recent Wimbledon defeats have seen him fail to win a set. it's not been a good year for the Spaniard with 17 of his 23 ATP Tour matches being lost and he's 98th in the Live ATP Tour Race. Vinolas hasn't played a grass court event this year, preferring to play more clay court events. We go for Hurkacz to win this in straight sets.
