Ajax Amsterdam leads Panathinaikos 1-0 from their Europa League Third qualifying round first-leg match at Athens’ Olympic Stadium. The second leg of this tie will be held at the Johan Cruyff Arena, with de Godenzonen hoping that their one-goal lead gives them a platform to progress into the playoff round. However, the Greens are still in this tie, and our prediction is that it should be a cracker!
Francesco Farioli’s Ajax did well to secure a lead in what was an even contest in Greece. Steven Berghuis first-half goal enough to earn them a slender advantage. However, Farioli will know that their Greek opponents caused them enough problems in the first leg to make this second leg far from a formality.

Panathinaikos boss Diego Alonso is experienced enough to know that this tie is far from over, even if his team will have to overcome a poor historical record against Dutch teams. They can draw confidence from their Second qualifying round tie with Botev Plovdiv, who they narrowly beat 2-1 at home before thrashing 4-0 away from home in the second leg.
The defeat to Ajax ended a run of four successive wins for the Greeks, including two friendly victories over AEK Larnaca and Maccabi Netenya, alongside the two wins over Botev Plovdiv in this competition.
