by Steve Ashfield in ATP Cincinnati Open Predictions
Adrian Mannarino comes into the Cincinnati Masters having lost each of his last eight matches. He tries to break his losing streak with a first round match against Nuno Borges. Can he finally get a win? Read our prediction.
His last win was in June when winning a grass court match against a player ranked outside the top 100. That's the only win he's had since March, just one win in 16 matches. This is a hard court tournament and he's lost three recent matches on this surface.
The Frenchman has been edging closer to success though and he has won a set in four of his last five matches. He's now down to 41st in the live rankings but was as high as 17th in January of this year. The winner here takes on either 15th seed Holger Rune or wild card Matteo Berrettini in round two.
Nuno Borges has overtaken Mannarino in the rankings and is 39th in the live list. Last week saw him win two matches and reach the last 16 of the Rogers Cup in Montreal. He's been in good form on clay in recent weeks and won the event held in Bastad, beating Rafael Nadal in the final.
On hard courts, he reached the last 16 of the Australian Open and won a Challenger Tour event. We tip him to beat Mannarino.
