Aberdeen will look to deny Celtic of another treble when the two teams face off in the final of the Scottish Cup on Sunday at Hampden Park. Will the Bhoys defend their crown or will the Dons lift the cup for the first time in 35 years? Read on for our match prediction!
Celtic are record 42-time winners of this competition and have won the last two editions back-to-back. With the league and League Cup trophies already in the bag, Brendan Rodgers’ side can seal a historic sixth treble-winning season in the last nine years with a win here. The favorites advanced to this stage following a dominant 5-0 win over St. Johnstone in the semi-finals.
It’s a David vs Goliath situation for Aberdeen as they come in as sizable underdogs to cause the upset. On the line is potentially a first Scottish Cup title since 1990, which could also be the eighth in club history. This is a rematch of the 2016-17 final, during which Celtic ran out 2-1 winners. Will history repeat itself?

Aberdeen - Celtic: Form Analysis
Celtic come into this cup final after capping off an SPFL winning season which saw them finish 17 points clear of rivals Rangers.
They closed out the campaign with a 1-1 home draw with St. Mirren, a result which required a late equalizer by the champions in stoppage time to avoid defeat. The draw pushed Celtic’s current unbeaten run to seven games, five of which were victories.
Celtic have recorded one of their highest-scoring seasons ever. Their total of 112 goals in 38 league fixtures represents the fourth highest goal tally in Celtic history, putting them only four goals behind the top spot of 116 (1915-16 season).
Celtic have scored exactly five goals in four of their last seven matches.
Trying to stop this unstoppable attacking force is an Aberdeen side that has hit a poor run of form at the worst possible time.
Aberdeen blew a 1-0 first half lead away against Dundee United to ultimately lose 2-1 in their last appearance. It was the fourth match in a row that the Dons have lost, made even worse by the fact that they’ve conceded 12 goals during that stretch.
While it’s not as ugly as the 12-game winless run that they experienced towards the end of 2024, they would have wanted to come into this cup final after a positive performance.

Aberdeen & Celtic Squad Analysis
All eyes will be on the attacking duo of Daizen Maeda and Nicolas-Gerrit Kuhn for the defending champions. The pair have been responsible for 80 goal contributions in total this season across all competitions. Maeda is the leading scorer with 33 goals in 50 appearances while Kuhn is second on the team with 21 goals.
Reo Hatate will miss out with the Japanese international recovering from a knee injury. Celtic will be sure to miss his presence as the 28-year-old offers a creative spark from midfield.
Hatate is the top-scoring midfielder in the SPFL with 10 goals in 34 league appearances.
The only other absence for the Hoops is winger Jota who suffered an ACL injury last month.
Aberdeen’s hopes of a Scottish Cup victory could hinge on the performance of Kevin Nisbet. The on-loan striker is his team’s leading goal scorer across all competitions with 14 strikes to his name. Nisbet scored in the heavy 5-1 home defeat to Celtic less than two weeks ago but it was a dreadful night for the defense.
Manager Jimmy Thelin thus may consider changing from the 4-2-3-1 formation that started that fixture to something more defensively secure.
A key factor off the bench could be Jamie McGrath. The winger leads the team in chances created at 45 while providing 1.48 successful crosses per game on average.
Missing out for the underdogs is the trio of Vicente Besuijen, Ester Sokler and Sivert Heltne Nilsen.

Our Aberdeen vs Celtic Prediction
Aberdeen face a mammoth task if they are to win the Scottish Cup and deny their opponents of yet another treble-winning campaign. They’re on a wretched run of form and have been leaking goals left and right. Made even more difficult is the fact that Celtic blasted 10 goals past them in their last two meetings alone.
Celtic are on course to win a third straight Scottish Cup if they can keep their composure at the final hurdle. On their day, the Bhoys have shown themselves capable of single-handedly covering this goals total. Our Aberdeen vs Celtic prediction: over 3.5.
