Zimbabwe Victory Over Namibia Strengthens Final Chances
Innocent Kaia produced a match-winning display with a blistering 72 runs as Zimbabwe cruised to a five-wicket victory over Namibia yesterday, keeping their T20I tri-series final hopes very much alive and confirming our cricket predictions.
Chasing a target of 157, Zimbabwe got to the total with five wickets and 11 balls to spare, finishing on 160/5. Kaia smashed his 72 off just 42 balls, including eight 4s and three 6s, before falling in the 14th over with 33 runs required from 40 deliveries.
Sikandar Raza played a key supporting role with 29 before the Chevrons’ chase was wrapped up by unbeaten knocks from Ryan Burl and Tadiwanashe Marumani, who scored 12 and 13, respectively. Trumpelmann finished as Namibia’s leading wicket-taker with 2/41.
Asked to bat first, Namibia reached their total thanks to a magnificent 88 from Gerhard Erasmus. The skipper struck eight 4s and three 6s in his 48-ball knock and shared an 83-run fourth-wicket stand with Alexander Busing-Volschenk, who made 29 runs.
Matigimu and Evans took two wickets each for Zimbabwe, while Muzarabani and Raza claimed one apiece. The result moved Zimbabwe onto four points, level with South Africa but behind on net run rate, with the Proteas holding a match in hand.

South Africa are in pole position to reach the finals, currently top of the standings and with a solid net run rate of 1.386. Provided the Proteas do not suffer one of their heftiest defeats in T20Is today in Windhoek, they should progress to the final as table-toppers.
Namibia have to win today’s match to have any chance of reaching the final. A victory for the Eagles would leave all three teams level on four points, meaning net run rate will decide the Tri-Series finalists.
Namibia have beaten South Africa in their two previous T20Is and have won 10 of the 14 games they have played in Windhoek!
