Not only has he lost just one of his last four European games, including a three-match unbeaten run, but he has achieved what no other manager in the modern era has achieved: guiding the team to its first major European semi-final in 42 years.

Former manager Brian Clough was the last person to reach a major European semi-final with Nottingham Forest. It was during the 1983-84 season that his team suffered a 3-2 aggregate defeat against Belgium's Anderlecht in the UEFA Cup.

The Tricky Trees reached this stage through perseverance and resilience. They had to go past the likes of Midtjylland, with their toughest opponent being Portugal's most decorated club, FC Porto. Against all odds, they had no trouble seeing the Portuguese opposition threat, winning 2-1 on aggregate in the quarter-finals.

Their record is even better at this stage, recording two wins in three outings. Complementing their growing consistency in a European competition is their home form, which has seen them win four of their last six matches at City Ground. This venue has also made life difficult for their opponents in this upcoming encounter. Hopefully, that should be enough to see them secure a first-leg advantage, putting them one step closer to reaching their first-ever final in club history.

However, he has been quiet for some time now in the final third as he has not scored or assisted in his last five games. His most recent goal involvement came against Fenerbache in February 2026, providing an assist and scoring just once. One more important piece of information, the last time he scored at home was in the team's 4-0 thrashing of Ferencvaros in January.
