Celtic and Roma will face each other at Celtic Park on matchday six of the UEFA Europa League (league phase). The Scottish side head into this clash with a tongue in cheek "doomed to win" tag. They are aware that anything less than statement performance against Roma won't cut it.

Celtic: Tough start for Wilfried Nancy

Wilfried Nancy's start as Celtic FC manager was far from convincing. The former Columbus Crew gaffer's first game in charge ended in a 2-1 home defeat against Hearts of Midlothian in a Scottish Premiership game.

The 48-year-old now shifts his attention to the UEFA Europa League, hoping to get his first win with the club. The task is bigger than that, though, as expectations are to lead the team to success in this competition.

His record as manager has been impeccable, managing 216 games across all competitions. During this stretch, he recorded 109 wins, lost 59, and drew 48.

The Bhoys currently find themselves in 21st place in the league phase standings with seven points after five games. Their position is far from being guaranteed with just one point separating them from 25th-placed Ludogorets.

A win here could see them climb as high as tenth place in the league phase standings. However, they'll need results to go their way elsewhere.

Their last match in this competition was nothing but a confidence booster. They thrashed Dutch side Feyenoord 3-1 on the road. This marked their second win in five games.

Roma: I Giallorossi riding a wave of momentum

Roma are starting to find their groove in the UEFA Europa League after suffering two consecutive defeats. The Italian side started their campaign with a 2-1 away win over OGC Nice before losing to Lille and Viktoria Plzen.

I Giallorossi's recent match in this competition was a 2-1 home win against Midtjylland, marking their second win on the bounce. A third consecutive win could be on the cards as they face Celtic FC this Thursday. Check out our detailed Celtic vs Roma prediction for more insights on the match.

In the league phase standings, they occupy 15th place and have accumulated nine points from their last five games. The point gap between them and the top eight is not that much hindered by a one-point deficit.

Their record against Scottish opposition has been impressive, with three wins recorded in six games (D2, L1).

Head-to-Head Record: Who has the edge?

This marks the first ever meeting between these two sides. However, Celtic could find themselves on the wrong end of the scoreline in this fixture, considering their struggles against Italian opposition.

The Scottish side has crossed paths with teams in this bracket 16 times and has lost ten of those outings (W2, D4).
