Qualifier Yannick Hanfmann faces unseeded Matteo Arnaldi in the first round of the European Open. Whoever wins this match will have a tough match against top seed Lorenzo Musetti in round two of this indoor hard court tournament. Here's our match prediction.
Hanfmann spent the weekend playing two qualifying matches. He had problems in his second match, needing to come from a set down to defeat Belgian Tibo Colson. The 33-year-old is up to 135th in the live rankings.
His 2025 hard court record is 14 wins and nine losses. Four of those victories came in the recent Shanghai Masters. After making it through the qualifying rounds, he had main draw wins over Lorenzo Sonego and Frances Tiafoe before losing in three sets to Novak Djokovic.
Matteo Arnaldi is 71st in the live list but the Italian has only won 13 of his 28 hard court matches played this year. His most recent tournament was also the Shanghai Masters but he lost in round two to Alejandro Davidovich-Fokina.
Seven of his last nine matches have ended in defeat, all played on hard courts. Five times this year he's been beaten in round one of a hard court event and also recently failed to qualify for the Tokyo main draw.
