Wolves vs Manchester United Prediction & Betting Tips - Premier League

by Ian John | in Premier League Prediction

Wolves face Manchester United in the Premier League on Wednesday night after both enjoyed successful weekend's in the FA Cup. Wolves progressed at the expense of Midlands rivals West Brom, winning 2-0 at the Hawthorns and now facing a Fifth Round tie at home to Brighton. United meanwhile were forced to battle hard to overcome Newport County before securing a 4-2 win in South Wales. They now face a trip to either Nottingham Forest or Bristol City in the Fifth Round. The Red Devils lie 8th in the table while Wolves are 11th with three points separating the two teams after 21 games apiece. United won the game between the two at Old Trafford, a controversial 1-0 win where Wolves were denied an obvious last minute penalty by a contentious VAR decision.

Wolves - Manchester United: Form Analysis

Wolves come into this game in solid form in the Premier League. They have won three, drawn two and lost just one of their last six games and their home record is even better as they have recorded four wins and a draw in their last five at Molineux. Gary O'Neil's team have lost just two games at home this season, and have beaten Manchester City, Tottenham and Chelsea at Molineux this season. They will have to overcome a poor recent record against United having won just one and drawn three of the last 11 games between the two in all competitions. Wolves have found the net 16 times in 10 home games this season, conceding 14 with games seeing Over 2.5 goals 70% of the time at Molineux this season.

Manchester United's recent record is the exact opposite of Wolves in the last 6 EPL games. Erik Ten Hag's team have won one, drawn two and lost three and that has seen them drop down the table to 8th, just a point ahead of Chelsea. Consistency has been a real problem for the Red Devils this season, especially away from home where they have managed to score just 9 goals and have lost half of the ten EPL games they have played on the road. Just 40% of United's away games this season have seen over 2.5 goals scored and they average just two goals in their away games this season, comfortably the fewest in the Premier League. With both teams scoring in just 30% of United's away games, it does look like whoever gets the first goal on Thursday night will have a big advantage in this game.

Wolves & Manchester United Squad Analysis

Wolves will be without three players for definite for the game with Manchester United. Joao Gomes is suspended for this game, while Boubacar Traore is still at the African Cup of Nations representing his country and 10-goal striker Hwang Hee-Chan is doing likewise for South Korea at the Asian Cup. Midfielder Pablo Sarabia is another doubt through injury. Wolves look likely to adopt a 3-4-3 formation for the game with United with the excellent Pedro Neto providing the width down the left while the powerful Max Kilman will be the defensive lynchpin for the home team.

Manchester United will be without Anthony Martial, Tyrell Malacia and Victor Lindelof through injury for this game, while it may just be too soon for Mason Mount to make his return from a lengthy spell on the sidelines. Sofyan Amrabat is still representing Morocco at the African Cup of Nations too. There are question marks over Marcus Rashford too as the striker missed out on the weekend FA Cup win at Newport due to what was reported as an illness, although manager Erik Ten Hag did add "the rest is an internal matter" leading to speculation that there may have been more to Rashford's absence than initially stated.

Our Wolves vs Manchester United Prediction

A look at the stats for Wolves v Manchester United on Thursday reveals that we should not expect too many goals in this game. Wolves have been a bit sharper in front of goal this season, but they still rank just 11th in the EPL in terms of goals scored, while Man Utd lie 16th and their away goals record is even worse than that. Our Wolves v Manchester United prediction therefore is a simple one, for the home side to come through and emerge with a narrow victory over the Red Devils.

Wolves vs Manchester United - Other Interesting Predictions

Wolves to win and both teams to score - No

We've already stated that we think that Wolves v Manchester United is not expected to be a game packed with goals. Recent form and history suggests that goals are going to be very much at a premium in this game, but if one team is likely to find the net, it will be Wolves. Therefore, if we are backing Wolves to win, it makes sense that for our first additional bet is to pair Wolves to beat Manchester United with Both Teams to Score - No.

Pedro Neto (Wolves) to score at any time.

The fleet-of-foot Portuguese winger has been one of Wolves outstanding players this season and his importance to the team is magnified in the absence of chief goal threat Hwang-hee Chan. Neto scored at the weekend in the FA Cup win over West Brom and he is a player for the big occasions and it doesn't come much bigger than a home game against Manchester United. Our third tip here then is for Wolves Pedro Neto to score at any time.
