West Ham vs Tottenham Prediction & Betting Tips - Premier League

by Ian John | in Premier League Prediction

West Ham face Tottenham in an intriguing London derby in the Premier League on Tuesday night (8.15pm Kick Off). The Hammers have lost just three at home this season but come into this game on the back of a 4-3 defeat at Newcastle United, a game in which they led 3-1. Spurs were pushed hard by 10-man Burnley at home at the weekend, before emerging with a 2-1 win. Ange Postecoglou's team were booed off at half time following a poor first half performance but recovered to land the win, a result which kept them three behind Aston Villa in fourth with a game in hand, and eight ahead of Manchester United in sixth.

West Ham - Tottenham: Form Analysis

West Ham come into the game with Tottenham in good form at home. The Hammers have lost just three times at the London Stadium this season, but of their other 12 games, they have won six and drawn six. They have also drawn three of their last five at home in the Premier League as well as two of their last five games (winning two and losing the other to Newcastle at the weekend). David Moyes' team have lost just one game in their last 10 at home, but that was a 6-0 defeat at the hands of a rampant Arsenal. However, they have also just one of their last six at home, a 4-2 win over Brentford and the other four games have all finished as draws (V Brighton, Bournemouth, Burnley and Aston Villa).

At home Spurs have the fifth best record in the Premier League and that is also true for their away record where they have lost just three games, one fewer than they have lost at home. However, they have won six and drawn five on the road and it is fair to say that their recent away form is inconsistent. In their last six away games, they have won two, drawn two (both 2-2 draws) and lost two, including their last away game when they were well-beaten 3-0 by Fulham. Goals are not an issue in Spurs games, with 83% of their games seeing over 2.5 goals scored and 76% seeing both teams find the net. Given the scoring record of both these teams of late, one thing seems certain, there should be goals at the London Stadium on Tuesday night.

West Ham & Tottenham Squad Analysis

West Ham may have some decisions to make for the game with Spurs in terms of personnel. Defender Nayef Aguerd missed the game with Newcastle at the weekend, but could be in contention for at least a place on the bench. Additionally, Lucas Paqueta and Emerson are both only recently returned from injury, so manager David Moyes could elect to bring in Kalvin Phillips and Aaron Cresswell. Keeper Alphonse Areola did not return to the field after half time in the Newcastle game with a scan on a hip/thigh injury scheduled for Sunday. If he is unable to start, Lukas Fabianski will deputize. Edson Alvarez will serve the second game of his suspension for receiving 10 yellow cards in this game. One positive is the form of wide men Jarrod Bowen, who has 15 goals to his name in the EPL this season, and Mohamed Kudus, who has been excellent since signing from Ajax in the summer.

One positive for Ange Postecoglou following Spurs win over Luton at the weekend was that they did not add any further to their injury list after that game. Tottenham have three players on the treatment table at present with Israeli international Manor Solomon closest to a return as the midfielder has restarted training following a knee injury. Goalkeeper Fraser Forster will still likely be out another four weeks with his foot fracture, while full-back Ryan Sessegnon is out until the end of the season with a hamstring injury. Richarlison has made a return from injury against Luton, coming on from the bench. The Brazilian striker along with Uruguayan midfielder Rodrigo Betancur could be in line for a recall to the first team as Spurs seek to maintain their push for the top four. James Maddison's form has been a real positive for them since he returned from injury, while the goals of skipper Son Hyeong-min remain their most reliable source in terms of finding the net.

West Ham - Tottenham Key Points

  1. West Ham have not won any of their last three games (drawing two, losing one). They have drawn four of their last six home games, winning one and losing one.
  2. Tottenham's inconsistent away form is highlighted b the fact that in the 9 away games they have played since October 27th, they have won 3, drawn 3 and lost 3, scoring 18 goals and conceding 17 in those games.
  3. Both teams have scored in all of West Ham's last five EPL games and there has been Over 2.5 goals in six of West Ham's last eight EPL games.
  4. Similarly, both teams have scored in 10 of Tottenham's last 12 EPL games and there have been Over 2.5 goals in all of the last 12 and in 19 of their last 20 games in the Premier League.
  5. The teams met in the Premier League in December at the Tottenham Hotspurs Stadium and West Ham emerged as the 2-1 winners. Cristian Romero (11) gave Spurs the first half lead but second half goals from Jarrod Bowen (52) and James Ward-Prowse (74) took the Hammers to victory.

Our West Ham vs Tottenham Prediction

The data for both West Ham and Tottenham at the moment, especially with the Hammers as the home team and Spurs as the away, is very conflicting. Both teams are inconsistent in terms of results and performances but there are some consistencies. Both teams are scoring goals at the present and both are conceding. This means while a result-based tip may be tricky to predict, the odds look good on goal markets. Therefore our tip here is for Both Teams to Score and Over 2.5 Goals to be scored in the West Ham v Spurs game.

Total Goals Exact - 4

Both West Ham and Spurs are regular scorers in games and this fixture does have a history of goals. Spurs games average 3.53 goals per game in the Premier League this season, while for West Ham that mark is 3.43. As such, with plenty on the line for both teams, goals seem certain in this fixture. So our second prediction here is for there to be 4 goals scored in this game in total.
