West Bromwich Albion and Sheffield United are both still searching for first wins in the season ahead of their faceoff, with West Brom playing hosts. As they go to this game, the two sides occupy the bottom two spots in the league standings. West Brom have three points, in 19th place and Sheffield are rock bottom on one point. It has not been the best return for West Brom as they try to reestablish themselves in the Premier League; nine matches on, and they have garnered just three points from a possible 27. In their last three matches, they put up great fights but still went on to lose – against Fulham, Tottenham and most recently away to Manchester United. They have had their moments in matches but have struggled to kill them off, and a most notable one here is the 3-3 draw with Chelsea, where West Brom headed to half time leading 3-0. They also led against Everton, but went on to lose the game and with Sheffield’s form this season, the hosts should be targeting a win finally. West Brom head here with three straight losses and are winless in the last nine matches, with just one clean sheet and having failed to score in five of their last six matches. In their 11 matches this season, West Brom have had just one comfortable outing – against Harrogate Town in the League Cup, where they won 3-0. They have been improving in their performances in recent matches though, and have conceded two goals in just one of their last five matches, as compared to two or more in each of the earlier four. However, they have just two clean sheets to show from their last 11 matches and will hope their first Premier League meeting with Sheffield since 1973 comes with better results.

Sheffield United had a great run last season, right after their promotion but have so far struggled to replicate that. Heading to this game on four straight defeats and winless in 13 straight matches leaves them as underdogs. They have no clean sheet in their 10 matches this season, and have lost eight. Defensively they have struggled, a stark contrast to last season, where they would easily register 1-0 wins. Heading to the Hawthorns, they have conceded two goals or more in four of their last 10 matches and failed to score in five of the 10. Meanwhile, seven of the 10 matches have produced under 2.5 goals and while the poor returns in attack is a concern, their away run should be a big worry. Sheffield have one win in 14 away league matches and this hasn’t come inside the last 10. They have lost eight of their last 10 away league matches and have no clean sheet in the last nine away league matches.
