Turkey will start their journey towards the 2022 World Cup in Qatar with a home game against the Netherlands. Both nations will be looking to qualify for this competition after missing the last but with both set to play in Euro 2020 we expect this to be a good rehearsal. Turkey finished bottom of their Nations League group and here they will be hoping to show their fans they can rise from that low. It hasn’t been really great for the Turks after lockdown; they have one win in eight matches, and their last was a 2-0 loss to Hungary. Their last, and only win in eight matches, was against Russia in November in the Nations League. In three of the last four matches, Turkey have scored two or more goals, but they’ve conceded at least two goals in the last four matches. They’ve scored nine but conceded 10 goals in their last five matches and at home, in the last four matches, they have just one win.

Netherlands finished second in their Nations League group and after winning the last two, they’ll be confident of extending this run. In their most recent game, they steered a comeback to beat Poland 2-1 away from home and are going to this game unbeaten in five matches. They have scored in four straight games and hit at least two goals in their last two matches. Away from home, the Dutch are unbeaten in seven while they’ve failed to score in just three of their last 17 away matches. The Dutch have missed and been missed in recent major competitions, but here they have a major reason to play better and try to win matches. On form Memphis Depay is doing well in France and should be able to inspire the team here but Stefan de Vrij will not be available having tested positive for Covid-19. It makes it hard for boss Frank de Boer who is already without Virgil van Dijk and there’s no place in the team for Wolfsburg’s in-form striker Wout Weghorst.
