The 2020 European Championship finals are here, after being postponed by a year and kicking it off will be Turkey taking on Italy at the Olympic Stadium in Rome, in Group A. Turkey had a disappointing exit in 2016 after getting dumped out at the group stages and will be hoping for a better run this time. They warmed up for this tournament with friendly matches against Azerbaijan, Guinea and Moldova, and they won two, only drawing with Guinea. The results in the three matches extended their unbeaten run to six games as they head to the Italy clash. They have kept three clean sheets in their last six matches and should offer Italy some tough challenge, though the opponents they’ve faced lately can’t match what the Italians will offer. Apart from their 4-2 win over the Netherlands in the World Cup qualifiers in March, Turkey haven’t faced an opponent of Italy’s caliber in the last six matches. The fact that they will be playing this game in Italy may also not work for Turkey.

Italy are returning to a major competition after missing the 2018 World Cup in Russia. Theirs has been a somewhat silent rebuilding and Roberto Mancini has done a tremendous job so far. Italy remain outside favorites to win the Euro 2020 title and their form going to this game will leave really little doubt. They played two warm up games and did superbly well, scoring 11 goals and conceding none. The most crucial was their 4-0 win over Euro 2020 bound Czech Republic, a statement of intent and a reminder that they are back. In their last eight matches, Italy have won all, with clean sheets, and they have nine of those in 10. They went through the qualifiers unbeaten, collecting 30 points in the 10 matches played, scoring 37 goals and conceding four. In 32 matches under Mancini, Italy have suffered just two losses and kept 20 clean sheets. They have scored two goals or more in each of their last eight matches and go here unbeaten in their eight previous matches against Turkey.
