Tour de France - Stage15 Predictions & Betting tips - Tour de France
by Matthew Newman |
Stage 15 of the Tour de France is the final one before the second rest day. There are a few small climbs through the day, but it is not a difficult end to the second week, so a strong sprinter looks the right type for a prediction.
There has not been a stronger rider on this sort of terrain so far in the tour than Mathieu van der Poel. He has been exceptional, often doing a huge amount of the work himself. This is another stage where he looks set to play a big part as long as he still has it in the legs after the mountains.
Having ridden the Giro, it probably isn't a surprise that Wout van Aert has not had a good Tour de France. This terrain is set up for his style, however, so he could bounce back from some lesser stages with a strong effort here.
Jonas Abrahamsen and Marco Schmid fought out the stage into Toulouse, which had a similar feel to it. Fourth that day was Arnaud De Lie, who has three top-five finishes already in the tour. Along with the likes of Fred Wright and Quinn Simmons, all five of those men should be right in the mix.

Tour de France - Stage15 - Tour de France prediction key points
- Stage 15 is over 169.3km, with a rest day coming on Monday, so riders can leave it all out there on the road.
- There is a Cat 2 climb and two Cat 3 climbs so although this is much easier than recent days, there is still 2305m of climbing to be done.
- Short and punchy climbs should make this a stage for the stronger sprinters.
- Mathieu van der Poel won a similar stage earlier in the tour and was a close third in another.

Our Tour de France - Stage15 - Tour de France prediction
There are few stronger men when it comes to a punchy stage than Mathieu van der Poel. He has already won a stage in this tour, but it is in a couple of defeats that he has shown just what a remarkable talent he is.
Stage 11 almost saw him single-handedly chase down a pair of rivals, and in another couple of hundred metres, he would have won. Stage 9 saw him attack instantly with a teammate, only run down inside the final kilometre. This terrain suits him perfectly, so our Tour de France Stage 15 prediction is Mathieu van der Poel to win.
