Tour de France - Stage Seven Predictions & Betting tips - Tour de France

 by Matthew Newman |

Stage 7 of the Tour de France is almost 200km, which includes one of the toughest climbs of the first week, the Mur de Bretagne. This is similar to Stage 6, with a punchy stage that could go to an attacker or a puncheur. Let's make a prediction.

The last time that the Tour de France came to the Mur de Bretagne, it was Mathieu van der Poel who won the stage. That was 2021, but the way that van der Poel blew up on Thursday's stage after being in the breakaway suggests this isn't his plan in 2025.

Tadej Pogacar and Primoz Roglic filled out the podium in 2021. The former looked disinterested in maintaining the yellow jersey at this stage on Thursday, while the latter has looked miles off the pace. No surprise if Pogacar suddenly bounced back, however.

Julian Alaphilippe was in the yellow jersey here in 2021, finishing fifth on the stage. He was also fifth on Stage 2 of the Tour this year before some rather lesser performances. He is not averse to getting in a break, and given he is 20 minutes down, the GC contender won't mind his going up the road.

Tour de France - Stage Seven - Tour de France prediction key points

  1. Stage 7 is 197km with a Cat 4 and a pair of Cat 3 climbs after a lumpy stage.
  2. The Mur de Bretagne is only 2km long, but it starts at more than 10%, so it hits hard from the outset.
  3. This is Tour de France number seven for Julian Alaphilippe; he has six stage wins so far.
  4. A punchy profile suits Alaphilippe well, and he will not fear going on the attack.

Our Tour de France - Stage Seven - Tour de France prediction

Stage 7 of the Tour de France could see little happening for the first 175km and then all hell breaking loose late on. The finish on top of the Mur de Bretagne is going to test the field, and while the yellow jersey will not be won here, any time lost could hurt come the final week.

It is a tough prediction whether the peloton will arrive together or if a breakaway will be allowed enough rope to take the stage win. We are taking a chance on the latter, and a Frenchman eager to make an impression. Our Tour de France Stage 7 prediction is Julian Alaphilippe each way.
