Jannik Sinner is the second seed in the outdoor hard court Miami Open. He faces unseeded Tomas Machac in the last eight as Sinner bids to reach the quarter finals for the third time in four years. He’s made it to the final twice in the past three years. If winning this match, he’ll face either Daniil Medvedev (who beat him in last year’s final) or Nicolas Jarry in the last four. Sinner has won two titles this year and the only match he’s lost in 2024 was to Carlos Alcaraz at Indian Wells. The Italian has earned more ranking points than any other player this year. He’s only dropped one set so far in Miami. That was to Tallon Griekspoor in round three when losing the first set.
Tomas Machac began this tournament ranked 60th in the world but is up to 42nd in the live list. A win over Sinner will take him up to 32nd place and have him dreaming of being seeded at Roland Garros. Before this year he’d never won a main draw match in the Miami Open. That’s all changed in 2024 and he’s only dropped one set on his way to the last eight. His victories have included beating the fifth seed Andrey Rublev. In the last 16 he defeated fellow unseeded player Matteo Arnaldi. This is his second quarter final of the year having also got to this stage in the indoor hard court event held in Marseille. We tip Sinner to get a straight sets win.
