After reaching the last four in Rotterdam, Tallon Griekspoor will hope for another good week, this time in Doha. The eighth seed takes on qualifier Hugo Grenier in round one of this outdoor hard court tournament. Awaiting in the second round for the winner is either wild card Abdullah Shelbayh or unseeded Alexei Popyrin. Griekspoor was in fine form in Rotterdam, only losing in the last four to in-form Jannik Sinner. The Dutch player is 28th in the live rankings but 23rd in the ATP Live Race. He had won five matches in a row before Saturday's straight sets defeat by Sinner. His best win in Rotterdam was over Hubert Hurkacz. A side bet on a tie-break might be worth placing as five of his last six matches have seen one, including two matches in which both sets were decided in that manner.
Hugo Grenier is down at 151st in the live rankings but has been as high as 95th in September 2022. He had to win two qualifying matches to make it into the main draw in Doha. Wins came against Benjamin Hassan (losing the middle set) and Maxime Cressy. Most of his wins this year have come in the qualifying rounds. His best performance was in the Australian Open. The Frenchman won three qualifying matches, beat Andre Muller in round one and then lost to Felix Auger-Aliassime. His last tournament was in Marseille where he lost in round one to Sebastian Korda. We tip Griekspoor to win this match in straight sets.
