Sweden are in pole position at present and will hope to improve on the fourth place they achieved in the last tournament in 2023. An Olympic bronze medal was won by the Swedes in Paris last year.
They started these championships with a 31-23 victory over the Czech Republic. They followed that up at the weekend with a dominant 46-17 victory over Cuba. Clara Lerby is in top form with 17 goals in their two wins.
Brazil were quarter-finalists in last year's Olympic Games. They have qualified for the Main Round of the World Championships in 2023 and were champions back in 2013. Brazil have dominated South American handball with seven successive Pan American Games titles.
They won last year's South and Central American Championships and have started this tournament well. A 41-20 win over Cuba saw 44-year-old Alexandra do Nascimento (part of the 2013 winning team) score seven goals. They then defeated the Czech Republic 28-22 after trailing at the break.
