As the African Nations Championship (Chan) enters the last eight stage, surprise package Sudan have set up a clash against Algeria. Having played in Group D, Sudan finished at the summit, while Algeria were second-place finishers in Group C. We have a prediction for this match below.

Sudan were the table toppers with the least points across the board. They managed just five, drawn from a resounding win against Nigeria (4-0) and two draws, with Senegal (0-0) and Congo (1-1).

Conceding just one goal, Sudan proved tough to beat and will look to impose the same on Algeria. In their seven meetings with Algeria, Sudan managed just one win.

Algeria started off their campaign on a high but somewhat regressed towards the end and finished second in Group C. Though they were second, the North Africans managed more points than Sudan, albeit after playing four matches.

Algeria thrashed co-hosts Uganda 3-0 in their opening match, signaling their intent. However, it was lukewarm from there on, as they finished unbeaten but with three straight draws.

Algeria, finalists in the last edition, will be looking to go one better in this year’s tournament. The North Africans have dominated this fixture but have never beaten Sudan in their two Chan meetings.
