Stephen Bunting beat Ryan Royce 10-8 in the first round. This match is being played over 21 legs with the first to 11 progressing. Their quarter-final opponent will be either fifth seed Jonny Clayton or unseeded Mike de Decker.
Bunting is hoping to reach the last eight in Blackpool for only the second time. His only other last eight appearance was in 2019. This year has seen him reach the World Championship semi-final. He's also won one title each in the European Tour and Players' Championship.
Gary Anderson defeated Luke Woodhouse 10-5 in round one. His average was just 0.02 better than that achieved by Bunting in his first round victory.
The former two-time PDC World Champion also won this title seven years ago and was the runner-up in 2020. He's also won one title on the European Tour this year and another in the Players' Championship.
