Southampton vs West Brom Prediction & Betting Tips - Championship

Arguably, the pick of the matches in the Championship this week will see Southampton taking on West Brom on Saturday afternoon. These sides are separated by a single point, with the hosts currently in fourth place, while the visitors are fifth. After losing four of their five games in August, Southampton have been much better over the last month. They come into this match off the back of a 1-0 victory over Millwall. That result extended their recent run of form to seven matches unbeaten, including five wins and two draws. The Saints have taken a total of 11 points from a possible 21 at home and are unbeaten in their last three. Notably, they have not kept a clean sheet at Saint Mary’s as yet this season, which has been their biggest issue this term. In 15 league matches, the hosts have conceded 25 goals, which is the worst record of any team in the top half. Still, with a solid record in recent weeks, the Saints are the favourites in this match. 

Meanwhile, West Brom have made inroads up the table in recent weeks and will head into this match with good momentum. They secured a convincing 3-1 win over Hull City last week. That marked their third win in succession and fourth game unbeaten on the trot. Another win in this match will see them overtake their opponents and could even take them to third place if Leeds fail to win their match against Plymouth Argyle. The Baggies have also been fairly good on the road this term. In their last six away matches, they have lost only once, while winning two and drawing three. The visitors' main strength this season has been their defence. They have conceded just 15 goals to date, which is the second-best record in the league behind Leicester City.
