Southampton look to continue their impressive form in the Championship with a home win over ninth placed Cardiff City. After a slow start to the season and losing key players, the Saints are now fourth in the table. Winning automatic promotion back to the Premier League is still going to be a tough task. They begin the weekend eight points behind second placed Ipswich Town and a vastly inferior goal difference. Southampton beat Bristol City 1-0 at home in midweek, extending their unbeaten league run to ten games. It's a massive improvement after losing their four previous league fixtures and conceding 12 goals. Home form at the St Mary's Stadium has seen them win their last three league fixtures. The couple of home league losses they have suffered were to Leicester City and Ipswich Town, the top two teams in the Championship.

Cardiff City lost 1-0 at home to West Bromwich Albion in midweek. That has left them three places and the same number of points behind the final promotion play-off position. The Bluebirds have lost two of their last three league fixtures but it was so nearly a trio of defeats. Last weekend saw them go into second half added-on time 1-0 down at Preston North End. Then they stunned the home side with two goals to get an unexpected away victory. Cardiff City have won three of their nine away league games this season but lost four. They are unbeaten in their last three away league games but this is a tough match for them and we go for Southampton to win.
