In their opening two matches, Spain have had the giant share of possession but they have little to show for their dominance. They go to their final Group E game against Slovakia with two points, one behind Slovakia, who got their points in the opening win over Poland. This is a crucial game for both sides, but Slovakia will only be gunning for a draw, which should be enough to see them sail through. Slovakia lost 1-0 to Sweden in their last game, in an unfortunate moment when goalkeeper Martin Dubravka conceded a penalty that was well dispatched by Emil Forsberg. They had a good game though and managed to keep the Swedes at bay for most of the game. Ahead of the Spain game, Slovakia know their opponents will have the most possession and should be drawing out a good plan on how to deal with this, especially in defence. They have just one clean sheet in the last five matches but they haven’t conceded more than a goal, though having failed to score in two of their last three matches should be a concern.

Spain were dejected after their 1-1 draw with a hard fighting Poland. This came after struggling to break down Sweden earlier, manager Luis Enrique should be holding genuine concerns about his team’s ability to open up a very defensive opposition. Perhaps the return of skipper Sergio Busquets will come with some inspiration, because Spain need it. The Barcelona midfielder was in isolation for the first game but made it to the bench for the second and is expected to start in the third. While he may not be the most creative out there, the leadership he offers will be crucial. Spain need the spark that has lacked in the last two games and after drawing three games in the last four, they will be under pressure here. They are unbeaten in their last 10 matches, but in that run, they’ve managed just four wins.
