Slovakia will take on Finland in the Third Place Match in the Men’s Ice Hockey at the Winter Olympics on Saturday. Who will take the bronze medal? Let’s take a dive into the matchup and make our prediction.
Finnish fans may well feel slightly frustrated that they were beaten 2-3 by Canada in their semi-final contest. Finland took a 2-0 lead but were clawed back with the winner being scored with just 36 seconds remaining in the third period.
After a rough start to the games when they lost to Slovakia, Finland won four straight to make it to the semi-final stage. They have got stronger as the tournament has gone on.
Slovakia were absolutely no match for a rampant USA team in their semi, ending up on the wrong side of a 2-6 beating. They didn’t get on the scoresheet until the third period, so it remains to be seen if they can get their confidence back up again after that.
As mentioned, they beat Finland in their opening group game 4-1 despite being massively outshot by the Finnish squad. Finland have improved massively since that opening game, so it will be tougher to do that again.
