Senegal were lucky to beat a resolute Zimbabwe in their opening game of Group B at the 2021 AFCON finals but the best ranked nation in Africa didn’t play well. They have another chance, when they take on Guinea in the second game. Both the two nations have three points after slim wins in their opening games. Sadio Mane scored a penalty in the 90th minute to see Senegal collect three points against Zimbabwe, a result that in reality was very unfair for the Zimbabweans. For the better part of the game, Senegal struggled and will definitely want to address that coming into this game. A number of their key players should return for this game after missing the win over Zimbabwe and we should expect a much more solid Senegal side.

Guinea were also not very comfortable in their game against Malawi and should be thankful for a wasteful Malawi frontline. Guinea showed glaring weaknesses and on numerous occasions were caught out but survived. With the lethal attack that Senegal has, this will be severely punished. It is also not like Guinea are the best attacking side; in their last five matches, they have failed to score in three games, and the only time they’ve scored more than one was in a 2-0 friendly win against Rwanda. At the AFCON finals, Guinea have just two wins in the last 10 games and they have just two clean sheets in 17 matches at the competition.
