Senegal struggled in the group stages of the 2021 AFCON, scoring just one goal in the three matches, and that coming from the penalty spot. That was despite all the talent in the team. They will be up against Cape Verde as the competition goes into the round of 16. Senegal’s only goal of the competition so far came from Sadio Mane’s last minute penalty against Zimbabwe, and they went on to draw the next two games, failing to score. Each of their last five matches has now produced under 2.5 goals and they haven’t conceded in four of the five matches. In their last two matches at the group stages, Senegal failed to score and they haven’t scored more than a goal in four of their last five matches ahead of this one.

Cape Verde, just like Senegal registered a win in their opening game of the 2021 AFCON but after that won none. They lost 1-0 to Burkina Faso in the second game and drew 1-1 with Cameroon in their final group game. Only one of their last five matches has produced over 2.5 goals and they haven’t scored more than one goal in their last four matches. Once in the last five matches, Cape Verde failed to score completely. In their last 10 matches, seven have produced under 2.5 goals while at AFCON, they don’t have the best of runs when it comes to attack. In their last five AFCON matches, Cape Verde have failed to score in three and have just two goals in the process. They however have three clean sheets in those five matches, while all of them have produced under 2.5 goals.
