Rennes will hope to extend their lead atop Group F of the Europa League when they host Panathinaikos on Thursday. They currently sit two points above second-placed Panathinaikos. Rennes won the first match of this doubleheader with Panathinaikos a fortnight ago. The win was their second in the group and placed them on six points. A second victory against their Greek opponents could leave the French side needing just one more victory to progress to the knockout rounds. Bruno Genesio’s men are struggling with a lack of consistency. Les Rennais have won just four matches all season and in their last six games have been defeated four times. The latest defeat came last weekend as they fell 2-0 away to Nice.

The loss to Rennes came as a surprise to a Panathinaikos team that has been in strong form so far this season. It ended a five-match unbeaten run but Ivan Jovanovic’s men have immediately gotten back on the horse. The Greens have won their last two fixtures and have done so by scoring an impressive seven goals. They defeated Lamia 2-1 away from home last weekend to follow up on their 5-0 thrashing of Panserraikos. The two wins have allowed them to pull away at the top of the Greek Super League. Victory on Thursday will see Panathinaikos assume leadership of Group F.
