A crucial bottom half battle in La Liga is set to get underway this weekend when Rayo Vallecano play host to Sevilla on Monday night. The hosts are in 13th place in the league standings, while the visitors are three places below them. Rayo Valeecano have been slipping in the standings in recent weeks and come into this match having failed to win any of their last three league matches. They were beaten 2-0 by Las Palmas, played out a stalemate away to Real Sociedad, and lost 2-1 to Atletico Madrid in midweek. Looking further back, the Red Stripes have only managed one win in their last 12 matches and just five all season. At home, the hosts are winless in their last eight league matches, including five draws and three losses. Rayo’s major issue this season has been their attacking output, as they have the league’s second-worst goal tally of 19, with only relegation contenders Cadiz faring worse. The reverse fixture ended in a 2-2 draw back in October, but the hosts are the favorites here, according to the bookmakers. 

Meanwhile, the 2023-24 La Liga season has been something of a nightmare for Sevilla. They head into Sunday’s fixture having only managed 17 points after 22 matches, posting an underwhelming record of just three wins, eight draws, and 11 losses, which sees them sitting only one point above the dotted line. Los Nervionenses played out a 1-1 draw against Osasuna in midweek, which brought an end to a four-match losing streak dating back to mid-December. As far as wins go, the visitors have only taken all three points in one of their last 15 league games. On the road, Sevilla have won only one of their ten away games and were thrashed 5-1 in their last outing against Girona. The visitors have failed to beat this opponent in their last three attempts (W0 D2 L1) and may struggle to get anything from this one.
