Pedro Cachin takes on Sebastian Ofner in round one of the Madrid Masters. Neither are in the best of form at present and the winner faces a tough match against 20th-seeded Frances Tiafoe in round two. Cachin comes into this outdoor hard court tournament still looking for his first win of the year. He's played 11 matches in 2024 and lost every single one of them. He's slipped out of the top 100 in the live rankings due to him defending the points he earned here in 2023. That saw him get to the fourth round but he's nowhere near that form at present. That's reflected by his position in the ATP Live Race which is a lowly 465th. Cachin has played six clay court tournaments this year, losing in his first match in all of them.

Sebastian Ofner is 44th in the latest rankings and 76th in the Live ATP Race. He hasn't a great year so far but nothing on the scale of Cachin's woes. He didn't win any matches on the South American clay court tour or in Marrakech. It's improved in the past fortnight though and he made the second round in both Monte Carlo and Barcelona. He had tough draws with his losses coming against Alexander Zverev and Stefanos Tsitsipas. Last year saw him win the clay court Challenger Tour event held in Salzburg and he got to the fourth round at Roland Garros. We tip him to win this match.
