Second seed Carlos Alcaraz will be up against world No. 733 Oliver Tarvet in the second round at Wimbledon. In reality, this first meeting between the two is a serious mismatch, but both players will be digging in, and we have a prediction for the match below.

A student at the University of San Diego, Tarvet occasionally participates in the ITF circuit. Here, though, he will have the biggest game of his career and worldwide focus. He has already turned a few heads with the rise from the qualifying rounds.

The Briton beat higher-ranked Terence Atmane, Alexis Galarneau, and Alexander Blockx to earn a main draw spot. The 21-year-old then overcame world No. 503 Leandro Riedi and will be looking to shock one of the best in the game.

The quest for a third straight Wimbledon title didn’t particularly start on a strong footing for Alcaraz. He had a nervy performance against a battling Fabio Fognini, winning in five sets. Next, the Spaniard’s defence faces a much weaker player, but Tarvet has shown he is not to be underestimated.

Alcaraz has suffered just one loss in his last 19 matches at Wimbledon, and all signs indicate he will get a win on Wednesday. However, there may be no guarantees on his ability to win in straight sets, especially against a player without much to lose.

The winner in this match will advance to meet Felix Auger-Aliassime or Jan-Lennard Struff in the third round.
