Northern Ireland will meet South Africa in the second round of the 2025 World Cup of Darts on Saturday afternoon in Frankfurt. Northern Ireland is the number four seed in the competition while South Africa is unseeded. Let’s get into the match prediction.
Northern Ireland is considered one of the dark horses in this year’s World Cup after reaching the quarter-final before bowing out to England in 2024.
Daryl Gurney is back in the team and pairs up with Josh Rock for the first time, and the pair will be making their first appearance in the competition due to the top four seeds receiving first-round byes.
Northern Ireland has a World Cup record of 21-14 and has reached the last eight in three of their last four campaigns. They also beat their upcoming opponent 4-1 last year.
Meanwhile, South Africa is already proving to be one of the surprise packages in the competition, having topped their group, which featured Norway and number nine seed Poland.
The South African duo of Cameron Carolissen and the returning Devon Petersen lost to the Poles in their opener but secured a 4-1 win over Norway, who then beat Poland 4-2.
As a result, South Africa progressed with a better leg difference. They are now 13-14 in World Cup matches and beat this opponent 5-4 back in the 2019 edition.
