Newcastle United begin their bid to reach the UCL quarter-finals for the first time. The Magpies are home to Barcelona in the first leg of this last 16 tie. Can they improve their recent form and get a lead to take to Spain? Read our match prediction below.
United finished 12th in the league phase with four wins, a couple of draws and the same number of defeats. They are an unpredictable side this season and down at 12th in the Premier League. The Magpies may well have to win this competition to be in next season's Champions League. There will be a fantastic atmosphere at St James' Park for this match and United will need all the help from the Toon Army they can get.

Newcastle - Barcelona: Form Analysis
Newcastle United need to bounce back from their weekend FA Cup loss to Manchester City. The Magpies are in danger of failing to win a trophy this season and this is their last realistic chance of doing so.
This season's Champions League began with Newcastle hosting Barcelona in the league phase. United lost that game 2-1 with all the goals coming in the second half. They certainly can't afford a repeat of that scoreline.
United aren't in the best of form.
Saturday's loss to Manchester City made it three defeats in five games for Newcastle. Two were against City but Newcastle also lost 1-0 at home to Everton. Since that loss to Barcelona, they have won UCL home games against Benfica, Bilbao, PSV and Qarabag.
Barcelona won 1-0 at Bilbao on Saturday and that was their fourth successive victory with three clean sheets. The Blaugrana remain top of La Liga but there are concerns over their away form. Only one of their last three away UCL fixtures have been won.
In the league phase, they beat Newcastle and Slavia Prague but only drew 3-3 with Club Brugge and were defeated 3-0 at Chelsea. They also suffered an away loss to Girona last month so need a good performance to win this.

Newcastle & Barcelona Squad Analysis
Newcastle will need to rediscover their top form if they are to make it to the last eight of the Champions League. A tie against either Atletico Madrid or Tottenham awaits the winner but we're more likely to see an all-Spanish tie than two English clubs battling it out.
United lost again at the weekend and they have to be hugely concerned about how their shaky defence will cope against the might of Barcelona. The Magpies concede far too many goals but will be pleased to have Tino Livramento likely to play in this match.
Guimaraes still missing for Newcastle United.
They are without some key players though, particularly midfielder Bruno Guimaraes. United will hope for more goals from Anthony Gordon who has scored ten in this season's Champions League.
Marcus Rashford scoring both of Barcelona's goals in their 2-1 win at St James' Park in the league phase. He's not expected to start this game but will be a huge asset to have on the Barca bench.
Marc Bernal didn't play the second half against Bilbao at the weekend but is expected to be fit for this trip to Newcastle. They will be without Alejandro Balde and Frankie de Jong with both also expected to miss the second leg.
