The Netherlands are the defending European champions but have a tough opening fixture. They take on Sweden at Bramall Lane in Sheffield, with the other two countries in the group being Portugal and Switzerland. The Dutch side won the 2017 Women's Euros, then lost to the USA in the 2019 World Cup. Only the quarter finals were reached in last year's Olympic tournament but they will again be strong contenders as they bid to retain their European title. The Netherlands come into this game having won four of their last five games. However, the other saw them being beaten 5-1 in a friendly against England. They also lost to France in a friendly match played five months ago. Since the defeat by England, two games have been played with a 3-0 win over Belarus in a Women's World Cup qualifier and a 2-0 win in a friendly against Finland. Top scorer Midedema scored both of the goals in that win.

There's little between the Netherlands and Sweden in the betting for this tournament. That's understandable considering the fact tthat over 90 minutes, the Swedes haven't lost a match since 2020. They come into the Euros on a 30 game unbeaten run and earlier this year won the Algarve Cup. The Swedes finished third in the 2019 Women's World Cup and then were beaten in last year's Olympic final, losing on penalties. Every time they have played in the Women's Euros, they have got to at least the quarter finals. It's a long time since they won the first ever tournament, back in 1984. Their last three games have produced two wins and a draw with Ireland. One of the wins was away at Georgia in the Women's World Cup qualifiers, winning 15-0 after being 10-0 up at half time. This is of course a lot tougher but they will be a hard side to beat in this tournament. Go for both teams to score in this match.
