After an action-packed first day of action in Group F, the four competing nations are taking up their places. There’s a bit of surprise though, with Sweden entering matchday two leading the group while the Netherlands are third. There are 30 places separating these two nations in the world rankings. That aside, these two have shown qualities we might witness in this game again.
Both sides have serious firepower in attack, and each has scored twice or more in at least three of their most recent five outings. The downside each nation carries here is that they haven’t really shown the desired solidity in defence. As a result, seeing both teams scoring in matches involving the two teams is common.
Given such trends, our prediction, leaning towards the goals market, backs this for a BTTS bet. In the opening two matches in this group, 10 goals were scored, and the Netherlands and Sweden were responsible for seven of them. Will this match also live to that high-scoring billing?

Netherlands - Sweden: Form Analysis
On paper, Group F looked like an intriguing one before kickoff. After the start, all that came to pass, with the Netherlands being given a run for their money by a disciplined Japan. Twice in the match, the Dutch took the lead, but they were pegged back as the two faces of the Oranje came to the fore in a 2-2 draw.
While the Netherlands lack the firepower of the previous years, they remain a decent side in attack. That is why they’ve only failed to score once in the last 10 matches. Seven times in that run, they scored 2+ goals. However, they have managed just three clean sheets – against Lithuania, Malta and Finland.
In these nations’ last 20 games combined, only three clean sheets were recorded.
Sweden will be alive to the Netherlands’ defensive weaknesses, and they will be keen on taking advantage. Ranked third in this pool behind the Dutch and Japan, the Netherlands are keen on a win to secure their place in the knockouts. The Swedes brought out their own attacking edge with a 5-1 win over Tunisia.
While they were up against the lowest-ranking team in the group, this was an important statement win from the Swedes. They haven’t failed to score in the last seven matches, and in four of the last five they netted two or more goals. However, just like the Dutch, they’ve struggled to keep clean sheets. Sweden actually haven’t managed one in 10 games.

Netherlands & Sweden Squad Analysis
Virgil van Dijk once again showed his importance in the Dutch team as a leader, with impressive performances both at the back and in attack. He scored the opening goal and had a 92% success rate with his passes, which led to the Liverpool man getting named the man of the match.
The Dutch skipper attempted 103 passes, more than any other player on the pitch. His almost perfect understanding with Micky van de Ven in defence is another plus for the Netherlands. Another Premier League player, Ryan Gravenberch, also had a good game for the Dutch, providing the assists for their two goals.
Against Japan, Van Dijk had the most touches (114) and the highest number of attempted passes (103).
Sweden’s story of matchday one was that of attacking chemistry. Yasin Ayari scored twice while Viktor Gyokeres netted once and provided an assist. Alexander Isak had a goal and two assists in the 5-1 win over hapless Tunisia. While individually these three Swedish attackers are good players, their quality came out even more as they combined to tear the Tunisian defence to shreds.
There is, however, work to be done in defence, after conceding nine in the last five games. With Graham Potter unlikely to switch from a twin-strike model, Jesper Karlstrom, the defensive shield in midfield, has to improve. He won just 40% of the midfield duels and had 33% wins in aerial duels.

Netherlands vs Sweden Alternative Predictions
Draw
The Netherlands come into this match as outright favourites, but they have shown serious shortcomings in defence. Sweden will want to exploit those, though they are also carrying a few concerns defensively.
This hasn’t been a very straightforward encounter over the recent meetings. Even with the Netherlands looking superior, they only have three wins to Sweden’s two over the last eight meetings. Three of those matches were drawn, and the same is our second prediction here.
