Napoli will be looking to extend their good run of form when they play host to Empoli in the Serie A on Sunday afternoon. The hosts are currently in fourth place in the league, while the visitors are way down in 19th.  The defending champions cannot afford any more dropped points. They have taken 21 from their first 11 games, leaving them seven behind the current league leaders Inter Milan. Their major drop-off came between the start of August and the last international break. During that time, The Blues managed just two wins in six matches. Since then, though, they have looked much improved. Napoli won their last match 2-0 against Salernitana, which marked their third match unbeaten. Surprisingly, the hosts have struggled at home this season. In five matches at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, they have recorded just seven points. Still, they beat this opponent home and away last season and are massive favourites in this one. 

Meanwhile, after finishing in mid-table the last two seasons, the 2023-24 campaign has been a bit of a nightmare for Empoli so far. They have managed just seven points this term and are two points behind Cagliari, who are the first side above the drop zone. In 11 matches, the visitors have recorded two wins, one draw and eight losses. The most recent defeat came against Frosinone last week and was their third in their last five games. Empoli have already conceded 21 goals this season, which is the second-worst in the league. That includes 14 in their five away matches, while they have only scored three themselves. All indicators suggest that the visitors will struggle to take anything from this match.
