Stade Louis II will erupt into a symphony of sound and spirit in midweek when Tottenham Hotspur arrive on the French Riviera to face familiar foes, Monaco, in the UEFA Champions League. The Red and Whites are 30th in the League Phase standings after the first two matchdays, while the Lilywhites are in ninth place. Check out our match prediction below!
Monaco are set to embark on a new era in Europe this week, with Sebastien Pocognoli now at the helm after the club opted to part ways with Adi Hutter during the October international break. The Belgian tactician steered Union Saint-Gilloise to their first league title in 90 years last season and is now looking to help the Monegasques reclaim their status among Europe’s elite.
Spurs, on the other hand, have made a solid start to the season under Thomas Frank, still unbeaten in this competition and just one point off the top four in the Premier League after eight games. The visitors have avoided defeat in their last six UCL group-stage matches and are the favourites in this one. Let’s get into the key stats!

Monaco - Tottenham: Form Analysis
Sebastien Pocognoli’s reign as Monaco manager began with a 1-1 draw away to Angers at the weekend, a result that extended the team’s winless run to four matches since September 21 against Metz.
One of the major tasks for the new boss will be to address his side's defensive issues, as they have already conceded 13 goals in Ligue 1, which is the most of any team in the top half of the table.
The hosts held Manchester City to a 2-2 draw at this venue in their last UCL fixture, and have yet to lose a game here in any competition this season. They also scored two or more goals in each of their home matches this term.
Spurs have only failed to score in one of their last 18 matches in UEFA competitions!
Tottenham have made a positive return to the Champions League this season, picking up four points so far, including a 1-0 victory over Villarreal and a slightly fortuitous 2-2 draw against Bodo/Glimt.
However, the reigning Europa League champions saw their seven-match unbeaten run brought to an end over the weekend when they were edged 2-1 by Aston Villa at home in the Premier League.
Notably, though, the visitors have been impressive on the road this season, having picked up three wins and two draws across all competitions, while scoring 2+ goals in each of those matches.

Monaco & Tottenham Squad Analysis
Eric Dier started at centre-back for Spurs the last time these sides crossed paths almost a decade ago, but he will miss this meeting against his former employers due to a muscle injury.
The Englishman is just one of many injury absentees for the hosts at present, with Vanderson, Lukas Hradecky, Christian Mawissa, Lamine Camara and Denis Zakaria all currently sidelined as well.
Mika Biereth led the attack against Angers at the weekend, but after coming off the bench to score the all-important goal in that match, Pocognoli is likely to recall Folarin Balogun to the starting 11 in this one.
Spurs have been handed a few major injury blows in the last week!
The most recent was that of skipper Cristian Romero, who sustained an adductor injury during the warm-up against Villa. As a result, Kevin Danso will likely partner Micky van de Ven in central defence.
Frank also has a lengthy casualty list that features James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, Radu Dradusin, Kota Takai, Yves Bissouma and Dominic Solanke. Destiny Udogie is a major doubt.
With Solanke ruled out and Mathys Tel not a part of Spurs’ League Phase squad, Richarlison will almost certainly lead the line here. The Brazilian has not scored in this competition as yet this season, but does have four goal contributions in eight games in the Prem.

Despite Monaco’s early-season struggles that led to the dismissal of Adi Hutter, they have been solid at home and have not lost a competitive match at Stade Louis II since February against Benfica.
However, the hosts have had to rely on outscoring opponents to maintain their unbeaten run, as they have not kept a clean sheet on home soil this term and have conceded two or more goals in each of their last four at this venue. Our Monaco vs Tottenham prediction is both teams to score.
