The penultimate night of the 2025 Darts Premier League season will get underway with Michael van Gerwen taking on Nathan Aspinall on Thursday. MVG is fourth in the league standings, while the Asp is fifth. Let’s get into the match prediction.
This is arguably the biggest match of the season for these two players, who are in a heated battle for the fourth and final playoff spot, with just one point separating them in the standings.
Michael van Gerwen enters this match following a tough week. He suffered a 6-4 first-round defeat to Luke Humphries on Night 14 and was beaten in the opening round of the Players’ Championship 15.
The defeat on Monday was MVG’s sixth first-round exit on the ProTour this season, and he is now on a four-match losing streak across all competitions.
Meanwhile, Nathan Aspinall also bowed out in the first round in Leeds last week, losing 6-4 to league leader Luke Littler despite posting the highest checkout of the Night (164).
That result marked the Asp’s third loss in a row and seventh in his last 10 across all competitions over the last month.
However, Aspinall will enter this match with some confidence, having beaten this opponent in their last two encounters, including a 6-2 victory in the Premier League at the start of April.

This is a huge match for both these players as it could be defining in who reaches the Playoffs. MVG is the current favourite, but he has been well below his best in recent weeks, as we saw on Monday when he lost to youngster Dominik Gruellich in Hildesheim.
