Arthur Cazaux will bid to build on his good run at the Australian Open when facing Maximilian Marterer. This is a first round tie in the Sud de France Open and both players are unseeded. Cazaux is up to a career high 83rd after his run to the lasy 16 in the first Grand Slam of the year. Reaching the fourth round of the Australian Open saw him climb 39 places in the rankings. Cazaux beat two seeds in that tournament namely Tallon Griekspoor and Holger Rune. The latter is the top seed in this event. The 21-year-old is now in the top 100 for the first time in his career and playing back in France he'll look to climb even higher up the ranking list in the coming months.

Maximilian Marterer is 92nd in the world rankings but had nowhere near as successful an Australian Open as his opponent. He lost in round one to Nuno Borges in straight sets. The German has a career high of 45th but that was achieved six years ago. Marterer is playing only his second match of the new year and that was the loss to Borges. He therefore begins this tournament still waiting for his first victory in 2024. Last year ended with him winning a Challenger Tour in Sweden, the second of two titles he won last year. Both were on the Challenger Tour but the Swedish win was his only on a hard court. We go for Cazaux to continue his good form and win this match.
