Roberto De Zerbi’s magic is rubbing off on Marseille, and they have the chance to go top of Ligue 1 this weekend. Les Phoceens host Nice and a win on Saturday will see them hit the league summit, at least momentarily. Read on for our prediction of this match.
A return of 10 goals is Marseille’s highest tally in the opening three matches of a Ligue 1 season in 70 years. They registered a 3-1 win at Toulouse before the international break, adding to a win against Brest and a draw with Reims.
However, the team is yet to keep a clean sheet, conceding four times. Home form was key for Marseille last season, and De Zerbi will be looking to build on it as he also eyes stability on the road. The hosts have one loss in their last 18 away league matches.
In their last visit to Marseille, Les Aiglons fought to a 2-2 draw with their hosts. They will be looking to better that result after a slow start this season, Nice opened their campaign with a 2-1 loss at Auxerre before battling to a 1-1 draw at home to Toulouse.
There was remarkable improvement right before the international break as they thumped Angers 4-1. Having failed to keep a clean sheet in their opening three matches, Nice will look at that as their next frontier. Facing this sharp Marseille side may not come with many guarantees though.
The visitors’ ambitions for this game will be hampered by the unavailability of at least seven injured players. A red card to Moise Bombito in the last game won’t help matters either.
