Marseille vs Brighton Prediction & Betting Tips - Europa League
by Steve Ashfield |
Second placed Marseille host Brighton and Hove Albion (who are third) in Group B of the Europa League. Both clubs are looking to win their first group match and had poor results at the weekend. Marseille are 12th in Ligue 1, while their opponents are sixth in the Premier League and were recently also knocked out of the Carabao Cup. A win for either of these two clubs will put them in contention to qualify for the knockout stages. Defeat though will leave a club looking at hoping to finish third and be moved into the Europa Conference League knockout play-off round. Marseille will hope that home advantage will pay off for them. For Brighton it's just an exciting night as they play their first away European fixture.Limited Offer. Currently at Draftkings

Marseille - Brighton: Form Analysis
Marseille have one thing in common with their opponents. They, like Brighton and Hove Albion, come into this match hoping to avoid a third successive defeat. The French club did well to earn a point from their opening Europa League group fixture. They trailed Ajax 2-0 and 3-2 and needed a late goal to come home with a 3-3 draw. They aren't having the best of Ligue 1 seasons and are 12th in the table. Only two of their first seven games have been won in that league but they are only five points behind leaders Monaco. Their two most recent matches have produced defeats at PSG and Monaco. The latter was disappointing as they led 1-0 and 2-1. With ten goals conceded in their last tightened three games they do need to up at the back. They come into this match having gone five games without a win. Home form has seen them two of their last five competitive fixtures.
It's a big match for Brighton as they play their first away game in European competition. They got off to a poor start in their opening Europa League group game with a 3-2 home loss to AEK Athens. Brighton conceded an early goal in their first ever European game but equalized with the first of two penalties they were awarded in that game. AEK regained the lead by half time but Brighton's second penalty levelled the game. The Greek side got the winner in the 84th minute leaving Brighton to play catch-up in this group. The Seagulls made several team changes and that went against them. It's been an up and down season at times for the Albion. There have been some impressive wins over sides such as Newcastle and Manchester United but also a 3-1 home loss to West Ham and at the weekend a 6-1 thrashing at Aston Villa. It'll be interesting to see what line-up is chosen for this game as they dare not start this group with two successive defeats. That's especially the case as their next two games in this group are both against Ajax.

Marseille & Brighton Squad Analysis
Brighton and Hove Albion have Pascal Gross, Evan Ferguson and James Milner doubtful for this match against Marseille. It remains to be seen if coach Roberto De Zerbi will make changes as he did when his side faced AEK Athens in their previous Europa League game but it's likely that will happen.
Marseille will be witout Geoffrey Kondogbia for this match againsho bot Brighton and Hove Albion due to a groin injury. Back from time out the side are both Sarr and Ndiaye who both have experience of English football having played for Watford and Sheffield United respectively. A 4-3-3 formation is expected to be played by The Olympians. They'll be hoping for more goals from Aubameyang who scored twice in the draw at Ajax. He's shown good form against Brighton in the past with three goals against the English Premier League club.
