Marcos Giron will play fellow unseeded player Sebastian Korda in the opening round of the 2025 Japan Open. This is their first meeting in three years, and the winner will play Tomas Machac or Sho Shimabukuro next. Read on to find our prediction for this match. 

Marcos Giron is having a shaky season and so far has compiled a nervy 19-22 record. Recently, however, he has seen some improvement and will be keen to keep this form going. 

The American, who won the first-ever meeting with Korda six years ago, is coming off a quarter-final run in Chengdu. Giron, who arrived in Chengdu having won just once in seven outings, has jumped to 48th place in the ATP. 

Sebastian Korda has struggled with his health this year, which in turn has affected his form. The American, who began the year with a runners-up finish in Adelaide, has missed three months of the season with a leg injury. 

This long absence almost saw him drop out of the ATP’s top 100. Currently in 71st place in the live ranking, Korda has contested 27 matches and won 15 times. The 25-year-old, who is making his Tokyo debut, has won the last two meetings with Giron.
