Victoria Azarenka will take on the qualifier Magdalena Frech in the first round at the 2024 Qatar Open. A second-round showdown with either Beatriz Haddad Maia or Wang Xinyu will then await the winner. Magdalena Frech has qualified for the main draw here for the first time in what is her second appearance in the competition. She defeated Kamilla Rakhimova by the loss of four games in her final qualifying match. Frech has compiled an 8-4 record so far in 2024 and half of those have come in qualifying rounds. Before arriving in Doha, she was defeated in the first round of qualifying in Linz. She is currently ranked 52nd in the live ranking having dropped one position.

Victoria Azarenka is a two-time Doha champion. Though it has been 11 years since she last triumphed here, the Russian will fancy a deep run in this year’s edition. Azarenka, who has won six of eight matches thus far this season, has only once lost a first-round tie here in six appearances. This season she is yet to drop a first-round tie. The former world number one’s strong start to the year has her ranked 31st in the live ranking. Azarenka began the year with a surge to the semifinals in Brisbane before a fourth-round exit in Melbourne.
